I find it WAY more interesting. I bought a vagabond2 from alienbee and haven't looked back. It's winter here now so no outside shoots for awhile. I'm already in withdrawal.
I really need a dslr. Im thinking of 6 months of getting used to it then renting these cheap studios (£30 p/w) and doing some studio stuff too and getting into the whole, call for models thing.
I started taking pictures seriously about 7 months ago and things have gone very well so far. I started a little business and am busy constantly. I started with some HDR and people went apeshit for it but I rarely do that anymore. I am a strobe guy now.
I started taking pictures in April this year and fell in love with it. Going get an slr soon and get a little lighting rig and practice, practice, practice.
Funny, I started in April as well. Practice is what it's all about. I have sunk countless hours combing the internet for every possible cool tutorial I could find. I went and took out a ton of books on lighting from the library. Although, in the end (as far as lighting is concerned) I found going with your eye and gut is the best way. Just play around.
Ive got some big plans for 2010 as far as photography is concerned. Ive got some good feedback this year which is really encouraging. Hopefully this time next year, I won't be working in an office and will be in a studio or location.
Well, good luck man. Looks like we are in a similar position. If I stay as busy as I have been over the last 3 months plus weddings in the summer I could go full time but it's a scary move with a family and a house and all that stuff. Gotta take risks to reap the reward I guess.
